Assault Victim ID'd, Still in Critical Condition

Cranston Police have identified the victim of the Jan. 30 assault on Third Avenue as 49-year-old Victor Baez.

The man who was seriously injured Jan. 30 and found lying in the street on Third Avenue has been identified by police as Victor Baez, 49, of 114 Third Avenue.

Baez remains in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Police were called to 112 Third Avenue just before 6 a.m. Jan. 30 "to investigate some type of disturbance," said Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan.

Baez had "serious injuries," according to police, who did not elaborate on what type of injuries they were, but indicated that he may have been struck by a car.

Officers remained at the scene for several days after the incident, causing many residents in the area to worry.

Baez was not carrying identification and police used his fingerprints in the effort to identify him.
