Cox Communications Donates $10,000 To Cranston YMCA

Money will be used for youth and education programs.

The Cranston YMCA recently received a $10,000 grant from Cox Charities that will help them to expand many of their youth and education programs, according to Cranston YMCA Executive Director Mike Norklund.

"As you know our Y services a large and growing population of inner-city, at risk teens," wrote Norklund in a statement, "This grant will allow us to vastly expand and improve our existing program offerings."

He added that Lisa Kennedy, the teen director at the Y, has already identified pressing needs for the community. These include more staff to allow more open use nights of the Pastore Center, scholarship funds to allow more individuals to participate in Y programs, beefing up their summer learning program, holding special events and creating speciality programming like bringing in music, art and dance instructors.
