Dems Blast Luciano for Late Campaign Finance Reports

Leslie Ann Luciano has appealed the fines and cited her battle with breast cancer.

A Cranston Councilwoman's late campaign finance reports was the subject of a press release this week by the chairman of the Democratic City Committee that labeled her an "embarrassment to every resident of the City of Cranston."

The councilwoman, Leslie Ann Luciano, responded by saying that she fell behind in filing her reports due in part to her battle with breast cancer and she has appealed the $13,000 fines and is awaiting her hearing date before the Board of Elections.

In the release, Michael Sepe had harsh words for Luciano, saying she is one of the "biggest political deadbeats" in the state and questioned her ability to review city finances when she has trouble filing her own campaign finance reports.

"If Leslie Luciano is an example and member of the “quality team” that the Mayor Fung wants to run the city with for the next two years then God help the city of Cranston.”

In an e-mail message, Luciano said "While I have done my very best to stay on top of every facet of my life during this time, this matter did fall through the cracks.  I take full responsibility for my failure to file the reports.  I am and have been working closely with the BOE to resolve this matter and am only awaiting a hearing date."

Luciano was diangosed with breast cancer at age 30. Now 35, she has been given a clean bill of health.

She said she hopes the matter will be resolved soon.

Her most recent campaign finance report was filed on July 2 of this year covering the period beginning Jan. 1 and ending March 3 of this year. She reports a cash balance of $0 and assets of $0 with no money coming in or spent.

The Board of Elections campaign finance website indicates that Luciano is past due with her second-quarter report covering April 1 to June 30 and the report due 28-days before the election. Lucanio filed a flurry of reports in April of this year to clear past due issues dating back as far as Oct. of 2010.

Has anyone checked her attendance record? That is embarrassing as well!!!
I bet she has no problem cashing the stipend checks she gets.
The policy needs to be revisited, the ONLY time a councilperson gets their check is at a meeting!!!
Why are we paying them to stay away????
If you have health issues, that should be your first priority, step down and let someone who will be in attendance regularly have the seat.

Leslie is a highly unstable person. I happened to have had the privilege of meeting a local neighbor of hers and was told as far as they knew Ms. Luciano was never treated for cancer. I have researched into her history a little bit and have learned her name "Luciano" is not her biological or married name. She chose this name several years ago for unknown reasons. She does have family, but I have not had the audacity to try and contact them. ....Yet... I have reasonable suspicion Ms. Luciano has worked very hard to cover something up.

Mr. Sepe should be ashamed of himself! Then again he overlooks the absentee representation from the Ward 2 & 4 DEMOCRATIC council members for the sake of assailing a councilwoman battling cancer. When will this misogynistic dinosaur ride off into the sunset?

If she is that sick she should have resigned and not run for a second term

Also she has missed half the council meetings in the last two years if her illness is inhibiting her from serving the people we all would understand her stepping aside to focus on her health

Thunder said it.

The Council President should have the power to point out the attendence as I thought they followed guidelines to missing too many meetings and those council people should be held ACCOUNTABLE and made to step down.

We can all justify things that happen in life and it is a horrible thing that happened BUT the fact is she has a Clean Bill of Health ---- yet, she is late in the timing of this responsibility and she's not even sick anymore.

We need responsible people to represent us. With venues like Cranston Patch, papers and a new Council President who will be under a microscope....I would think it would be easier to hold them accountable to bad attendence at meetings.

Suzanne, if the council president did that, he'd be pointing out the gross absenteeism if two members of his own party: Council members Bucci and Navarro.

Thus, the silence from the Democratic leadership on the council.

Wards 4 and 5 seem to be the only ones without a definitive winner. But, it appears it will be a Republican heavy Council. Who will be the next President?

Ward 4 fell off the chart when the former council person moved out of the ward. I highly doubt that their will have a Republican council,we the people want a balance n check in place therefore many seats will be won by the democrats.
I already voted as I will be vacationing whe the election happens...People are disgusted with who's in place now!!!

Hi, Mike White, I do foresee Stycos and Archetto getting back in. Other than Farina coming in Citywide, how do you see a democratic council?
Ward 2 is either an independent or Republican, Faviccio and Donahue seem to be shoe ins for reelection, Ward 4 will probably go Collins, he has Mayoral support and the people are less than pleased with the way Bucci has performed. I see Mr. Pelletier as a very strong candidate. He smartly separated himself from Creepy Sepe awhile back. Again, these are only my opinions and what I have heard from fellow Cranston residents, nothing scientific behind it.

Nicole you may have it right except Ward 4 lost all respect for Pelletier when he abandoned the people to move across the City. He should have done it right not wrong!!! HONESTY is the best policy.
People remember the "bad" and not so much the "good".
Aceto is likely to take Ward 4 as Collins is riding on the Mayors shirt tails.
Good luck to all the candidates.

She appears to be mentally unstable in person. I for one am glad she wasn't re-elected! She isn't capable of representing our city physically or mentally.
