Engelbert Humperdinck to Perform Top Hits at the Park

The Park Theatre is hosting legendary crooner Engelbert Humperdinck early next month.

Ever since his hit, “Release Me (And Let Me Love Again)” reached top-10 status in the U.S. and number one in Britain; keeping the Beatles’ “Penny Lane” from topping the charts, Engelbert Humperdinck has been performing sold-out shows to audiences around the world. Now, he’s coming to Rhode Island. On Friday, April 5, Humperdinck will bring his distinct adult contemporary sound to the completely renovated historic Park Theatre in Cranston for an intimate concert event.

Born Arnold George Dorsey, the smooth vocalist adopted the stage name Engelbert Humperdinck at the suggestion of Gordon Mills who managed Tom Jones and also recommended the famous singer change his name from Thomas John Woodward. After adopting his new name, Humperdinck’s career took off.

“The King of Romance,” Humperdinck’s sensitive lyrics and ability to sing in a three-and-a-half-octave vocal range garnered him millions of fans across the globe. After hitting it big with “Release Me (And Let Me Love Again),” Humperdinck enjoyed a run of seven consecutive number one hits including “The Last Waltz,” “After the Lovin’,” and “A Man without Love.” During the peak of his popularity, Humperdinck’s music sold 80,000 copies a day, fending off the Beatles from the top of the charts in the UK.
