Grammy Winner Angélique Kidjo Comes to Park Theatre

Grammy Winner Angélique Kidjo will bring her eclectic music to the Park Theatre Feb. 22 — a tribute to her homeland in West Africa and Black History Month.

Angélique Kidjo is a Grammy winner and has collaborated with the likes of Carlos Santana, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews, Aliciia Keys, Bono, John Legend and Joss Stone to name a few.

On Feb. 22, she'll grace the stage at the Park Theatre — Cranston's cultural gem — and will bring her unique sound as she pays tribute to her homeland of West Africa and "the richness and beauty of African culture while Honoring Black History Month," according to a release.

"Angélique Kidjo offers a diverse blend of rare musical treats and sounds in her new album, Spirit Rising. Recorded in Boston during a PBS concert at WGBH, it showcases Kidjo among a line of special guests that includes Josh Groban, Dianne Reeves, Branford Marsalis, and Ezra Koenig."

Throughout her career, Kidjo holds the honor of being the first woman to be listed among “The 40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa” by Forbes Magazine and was listed by The Guardian as one of the top 100 most inspirational women in the world.

She is also a frequent contributor to The New York Times for her role as an activist in support of equal rights for women and greater access to higher education opportunities for young girls in Africa. and has been a UNICEF Goodweill Ambassador since 2002.

Angélique Kidjo will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 22.  Tickets are priced at $25 and $35, and are currently on sale. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Box Office at (401) 467-7275 or online through the Theatre’s secure website: www.ParkTheatreRI.com.
