Local Girls Take in Costa Rican Culture for Winter Break

Shannon Vallande, Emily Sulanowski and Amber Beck, all from Cranston, were among a group of students at Bay View Academy who traveled to Costa Rica for a fun and educational trip during February vacation.

Three local girls who attend Bay View Academy in East Providence ventured to Costa Rica during winter break.

The nine-day adventure was with EF Tours and it was entitled "Coast to Coast Costa Rica." They explored the jungles of Tortuguero, Sarapique, La Fortuna and Guanacaste. They went white water rafting, kayaking, zip lining and hiked, blogging about their adventures every day.

In addition to experiencing a new culture, the students were able to practice their Spanish in a practical way by conversing with the locals. Pam Farmer (Bristol), Bay View Spanish teacher and chaperone, commented that “The trip was both fun and educational. Throughout the week, the girls learned a great deal about the Costa Rican culture, science, and the environment as well as Costa Rica’s efforts to make their country environmentally progressive. It was a wonderful experience for everyone.”

Bay View students will be travelling to Austria, Germany and Switzerland as well as France and Italy in April. Students will again be documenting their travels through Bay View’s blog, “Bay View Abroad” at www.bayviewabroad.blogspot.com.
