Man Wanted for Child Abuse Caught after Crash
Joseph Jones Jr., 28, was wanted since September.
A man who was wanted by Cranston Police for allegedly breaking the leg of his girlfriend's 7-year-old son was caught by police after a car crash in Providence.
Joseph Jones Jr., 28, of 6 Whipple Ave., was picked up on a warrant by Providence Police on Friday after a car crash, the Providence Journal reported.
Jones is accused of breaking the leg of the boy when he kicked him and broke his femur. The incident occurred when Jones was reportedly disciplining the boy and put him in "time out."
The boy's father reported the injury to police after his son was returned to him by his mother, the Journal reported, and couldn't walk on his swollen leg. The boy's mother didn't call police.
Providence Police took Jones into custody when they discovered Cranston Police had a warrant out for his arrest. Jones reportedly attempted to flee the scene of the accident before he was caught.

Sick. It's interesting to hear the Dad is standup and has the welfare of his kids over the mother. Media often only captures Dads' screwing up! What a heinous crime.

Somebody should break his leg the same way...an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth this is the problem he will go to the RI court system and get a slap on the wrist...BIG freaken deal, the courts need to step it up and PUNISH the bad people especially the ones that hurt children the elderly & animals. All harmless PROTECT the innocent.

I am the childs mother. And what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I was there when the incident happened and it was an accident! My son will tell you all the same thing. Stand up guy the father is, well look up his record because he was found guilty of assaulting my forteen year old daughter and myself in 2011! People should get all the facts before judging someone.

Sarah, I think most of us believe in innococent until proven guilty, but the facts presented here reflects that it was not until the child was home with the DAD that anything was done.
For what it's worth, I am a child of abuse and as such I have 'normalized' abuse in many ways...whereas a 'normal' person would have taken her kids and RUN. The point it, as a battered woman (as you eluded to in knowing their Dad has a previous record), you were unable to do anything. Only someone that has walked in your shoes can truly understand your issues, but the deciding factor "Doctor Smith running from the house...DANGER" was when your kids leg was broken. I hope you and all parties are enrolled in Anger Management and counseling. Get rid of that guy and work on yourself.

Accident? Why on earth are you allowing some man to put his hand on your child? He didn't give him a little tap on his leg to cause a break. You need to wake up girl and take care of your kid. He will be there long after all of your "boyfriends".

Suzanne. There are limits so called facts presented here. And the father of the child never called the police the doctor did. I am just appaled that this is all over the newspapers. Joseph will have his day in court and I know the entire truth will come into light. It just really hurts to see strangers talk about my life.

Who in their right mind accidentally kicks a seven year old and breaks a leg. No accident my dear Sarah. He meant to hurt him as punishment. The truth will come out and everyone will have to face the consequences of their actions.
