Cranston Police charged Marvin Barnes, who played in the NBA for four years and was a star on the Providence College baskebtall team, with soliciting a minor after a joint investigation with Providence Police.

Police said Barnes allegedly solicitied sex from a 17-year-old Cranston girl who is a student at the Met School in Providence. He reportedly knew the girl through his Rebound Foundation — a program for at-risk children.

Barnes was released on $5,000 personal recognizance after entering no plea to a felony charge of soliciting a minor. He will return to court on March 19.
