Paco Peña Comes to Park Theatre

One of world's leading traditional Flamenco guitarists is coming to the Park Theatre next week.

From the Park Theatre:

On Wednesday, January 23 Paco Peña and Flamenco Vivo will ignite the stage of the historic Park Theatre in Cranston as they treat guests to an evening of music and dance straight from the heartland of Spain. The intoxicating rhythm of Pena’s music, coupled with the artistic, colorful style of Flamenco dance is an experience that should not be missed.

Regarded as the world’s leading traditional Flamenco guitarists, Peña was born in Spain and learned to play the guitar at the young age of 6 and was performing publically by the age of 12. Soon after, he left home to perform with a government-sponsored folk music and dance program.

By the late 1960’s, Peña became a soloist and found himself performing with legends such as Jimmy Hendrix. Shortly after, he was touring the world with performances at Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He later founded the world’s first University course on flamenco guitar at the Rotterdam Conservatory of Music.

Taking the stage with Peña is Flamenco Vivo, one of the nation’s premiere Flamenco and Spanish dance companies.  Founded in 1983 with a mission to bring Flamenco to the mainstream culture, Flamenco Vivo now presents two tours each year.  The group performs classical Spanish dance and original dramatic works; bringing authentic, unique cultural experiences to diverse audiences.
