Police Arrest Three Shoplifters

Cranston Police reported three shoplifting arrests for two incidents on Aug. 6 and 7 respectively.

On Aug. 6, police were dispatched to the Garfield Avenue K-Mart for a report of two adult females who had been detained by store security for shoplifting.

Store loss prevention officers told Officer Nathan T. Bagshaw that the two women were observed entering the cosmetics department where they selected multiple items and then concealed them elsewhere in the store. They then walked out of the store.

The women, identified as Ana Maria Severino, 21, of 63 Salmon St., Providence, and Maria E. Gonzalez, 46, of the same address, were taken into police custody and were charged with shoplifting. The total value of the items they stole was about $80, police said.

Police charged Edwin Ortiz, 22, of 68 Barros St., Providence, with shoplifting after he was observed stealing a Voz De Mando CD, a screwdriver and two air fresheners by K-Mart store loss prevention officers on Aug. 7.
