Police Looking for Another Purse Snatcher

Police said the woman swiped the purse of a 61-year-old woman at the Atwood Avenue Stop and Shop last month.

Cranston police are asking for the public's help in identifying a female suspect caught on video swiping a purse from a 61-year-old woman at the Stop and Shop on Atwood Avenue last month.

According to police, the victim was at a self-service register near the customer service desk checking out her groceries. She placed her purse on a shelf to scan her items. When she realized the scanner wasn't working properly, she put her groceries back into her carriage and went to another aisle to check out.

That was when she realized her purse, which contained two credit cards, two department store charge cards, ATM cards, checks and about $100, was missing.

Officer Jamie Cahill investigated the incident. Loss prevention officials showed him surveillance vide of an unidentified heavyset white female with dark hair wearing a black jacket, a pink blouse, dark pants and glasses walk up to the purse, look around, and take it.

The suspect then left the store with the purse concealed with empty shopping bags. She drove away in a silver Nissan Altima with sunroof.
