Sovereign Bank Robbed; Suspect ID'd

Cranston Police believe Vaughn Watrous, of Providence, is responsible for this morning's bank robbery.

Cranston Police are looking for a man who robbed the Sovereign Bank at 555 Reservoir Avenue just before 10 this morning — and they say they know who did it.

Vaughn Watrous, 35, with a last known address of 185 Vermont Ave., Providence, is wanted for committing the robbery.

Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan said Watrous walked into the bank and handed the teller a note written on an ATM envelope.

The suspect never mentioned or showed any weapon during the robbery and ran out the door towards Burnside Street after taking an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect's description: white, between 20 and 30 with dark hair in a pony tail, was quickly determined to be the same description of the suspect sought in connection with recent robberies in Providence, Ryan said. That led police to obtaining a warrant for Watrous' arrest.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Cranston Police or Providence Police.

I agree Robert! Cranston is slowing becoming the new Providence. The best part is there seems to be more crimes since the police dept. moved to the city line(s) lol. No one is afraid of the law as the courts have become some lenient, why worry? You get a slap on your wrist or you get to go to the ACI where you are supported by the taxpayers, you have 3 squares a day, watch TV, have access to a gym, library. Not bad for a punishment!
