Spooktackular Tattoo-A-Thon a Success

Body art for food.

For some, last weekend was a time for dressing up, watching scary movies and eating sweet treats. But the artists at PowerLine Tattoo took it one step further. They embraced all of the Halloween fun while raising funds and food to help the hungry in Rhode Island.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, PowerLine Tattoo held its first annual Spooktacular Tattoo-A-Thon. Artists Evan Olin, Jay Blackburn, Mike Ladoux and Shane Baker created a variety of autumn themed original pieces clients could choose from for this event.

For several months the owners and employees have been planning the fundraiser. The event has been publicized on PowerLine’s website and FaceBook pages, on Cranston Patch and through several other media outlets.

“When we got here this morning there was a line at the door” said co owner Kara Olin, “I was thrilled.”

Jason Mullen and Tiffany Conti, both from Cranston and first time clients to PowerLine, heard about the event at the Boston Tattoo Convention.

“I heard about the event on the radio and thought what better reason could you have to get a tattoo” shared Brian Gagnon, of Tiverton.

The entire atmosphere was very festive with costumes worn by all employees and several clients, yummy snacks to eat and classic Halloween flicks being played in all three tattoo studios and the waiting area.

Shayna Shields, of Riverside, was there dressed as a Merlotte’s Waitress showing her support for her friends the Olins’ while waiting to get a falling autumn leaf tattoo.

“Our goal is for each artist to complete ten pieces today” said Evan Olin co-owner.

In total the artists completed 31 tattoos raising $1750.00, 201 can goods and two cases of ramen noodles. The artists donated their time and materials so all of money and food will go directly to The Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
