Harp Master, Scam Alerts, Police Contract

What's happening in Cranston today?

Harp: The Irish Ceilidhe Club of Rhode Island is the place to be tonight at 7:30 p.m. William Jackson and Grainne Hambly, renown masters of the Celtic Harp, will be be bringing an evening of harp music to the intimate setting of the club. Tickets are $15. For more information, check out the Irish Ceilidhe Club's Web site.

Council: The City Council heads into executive session tonight to discuss the proposed contract agreement with the police union. The new contract follows the mold of other recent contracts with increases in medical cost sharing and other adjustments. One thing of note is that detectives will no longer be prompted based on seniority alone — something the city was pushing for. For a breakdown of what's in the new contract, check back later.

Rain: There's a chance of rain today with a high of 63 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The rain is likely to continue through the weekend, so consider checking the hinges of your umbrella. It might be time to bust out the WD40.

Scams: Every day, it seems like there's a new scam making the rounds. Head over to the William Hall Library today t 2 p.m. to hear from Amy Schram from the Better Business Bureau, who will be discussing the most common scams and fraud out there. She'll spell out the warning signs and how to protect yourself.
