Much Warmer Today as Thanksgiving Washout Begins

Wet weather: It's going to be damp one. Showers will likely begin today, mainly after 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The high temperature will be 41 degrees. The rain is expected to continue through Wednesday night.

Council: Busy meeting at City Hall last night. The council approved a resolution to apply for a big matching grant to build locker rooms at Cranston Stadium. The council also met privately to discuss the status of the police contract, which is in limbo. And there's the matter of Taco Bell getting an apology from a couple council members. Stay tuned as we post these stories today.

Arlington: We were on hand for a heartwarming ceremony yesterday to dedicate the new Arlington branch of the Cranston Public Library system, marking the end of a lengthy renovation process that revamped the small library and added some new computers. Look for our story and pictures later today as well.

Holiday call out: We're still looking for volunteer opportunities to share and other holiday-related stories to post. Do you know of something locally that needs volunteers? Is there a local organization or family that needs help getting the word out about something? Let me know by emailing mark.schieldrop@patch.com.

Turkeys: One holiday-related event happening today will be at the Veterans Memorial Ice Rink around noon. More than 2,000 turkeys will be donated to area charities and volunteers, including a few from Ocean State Job Lot, will be on hand. We'll stop by to get a glimpse of the holiday spirit in action.

Crime: All this talk of stories we'll post "later" might have you scratching your head. Don't worry, there's stuff here to read now, including the return of a weekly police beat feature and a new feature entitled "Last Week in Shoplifting" that you might want to check out. Every week, a handful of people get caught stealing from area stores, so it won't be hard keeping that feature going, sadly.
