As part of capital upgrades of the YMCA of Greater Providence, funding was provided through borrowing to upgrade as many of the seven branches as possible. After 30 years of use, the Cranston gym has never looked better. “We have transformed the gymnasium to better support the daily needs of the various activities that take place at the Y,” says Mike Norklun, Executive Director, “the kids are loving the new gym and we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.”

Tuesday night’s ribbon cutting ceremony offered free throw, hot shot, and one-on-one contests. Among those present were Mayor Alan Fung, YMCA President and CEO Jim Berson, Executive Director Mike Norklun, YMCA staff, the contractor Mike Martone and several Board of Directors from the Cranston YMCA including Dr. Judy Lundsten, Dr. Louise Pastore, Mark Jones, Anthony Lambrese, and Tony Parente.
