Best 49th Wedding Anniversary Gift Ever? Cranston Couple Claims $2m PowerBall Prize

The woman claimed the ticket on Monday and said she bought the ticket only after her husband's insistence after she said it would be a waste and "probably wouldn't win."

One Cranston couple is counting their lucky stars — 2 million times over — and got themselves the wedding present of a lifetime by buying a winning $2 million PowerBall ticket in last Saturday's drawing.

A ticket bought by none other than a woman who said it would be a waste, since they probably wouldn't win.

About to celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary, the couple, who asked to remain nameless, matched all five numbers — but not the PowerBall. And the woman who bought the ticket chose the Power Play feature for $1, doubling the $1 million standard payout.

The woman claimed the ticket on Monday and said she bought the ticket only after her husband's insistence.

They were at the Stop & Shop on Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown when her husband mentioned getting some lottery tickets.

"Her first response was that they shouldn't bother because they probably wouldn't win," the Rhode Island Lottery Commission said in a release.

But her husband wanted to buy some Numbers tickets, so he did and she decided to buy a PowerBall ticket, choosing the quick pick option and the numbers were printed: 08-12-43-56, proving that there's always a random chance to win.

Right now, the couple isn't sure what they're going to do with the money, the lottery commission said.

There was no jackpot winner in Saturday's drawing. Wednesday's estimated jackpot is $90 million.
