Oh Snow! Trash Pickup Delayed Again

Wednesday storm has put another snarl in the city's waste collection cycle.

Tired of the city's trash schedule getting thrown off because of holidays and winter weather?

Better get used to it.

This week, there will be no trash collection on Wednesday, thanks to the snow storm looming in the forecast.

The mayor's office said trash and recycling pickups will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week with Wednesday's pickup on Thursday and Thursday's pickup on Friday, and so on.

Trash pickup was delayed last week and several consecutive weeks beginning around the holidays and during the week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The delays have caused some people to miss trash day, causing a backlog of refuse on some streets, much to the chagrin of many residents.

In a post on the Patch boards recently,  Carol Botello said "debris left everywhere not [to] mention the bins have not been completely emptied lately."

City officials hope some problems associated with trash collection will ease after the city implements new, larger, rolling carts that can be emptied by automated collection trucks and can hold substantially more waste than traditional garbage cans and recycling bins.
