RIDOT Warns Black Ice Likely Today

The state Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be careful out there this morning.

Snow melt, combined with freezing rain tonight and a lack of salt treatment means roads could be slippery today and "black ice is highly likely," according to a DOT statement.

"With pavement temperatures near freezing tonight," the DOT said Thursday night, "RIDOT crews will be out overnight to monitor roadway conditions. Given the limited amount of salt available, however, motorists should drive with reduced speeds, especially on untreated surfaces, and allow extra time for travel."
