Street to be Named after Cranston's Culpo, Miss Universe

Olivia Culpo, the winner of last year's Miss USA and subsequent Miss Universe pageants who shed a national spotlight on little 'ole Cranston, is getting put on the map herself.

The City Council Monday night approved a resolution adding the beauty pageant winner's name to Albert Avenue, which runs the length between Broad Street and Narragansett Boulevard in Edgewood.

The signs "shall now include the commemorative name of 'Olivia Culpo Way,'" according to the resolution.

The official name of the street will remain the same "and for purposes relating to all emergency response systems."

Before the council passed the measure in a unanimous vote, Councilman Michael Favicchio said naming the street after Culpo's win is a reflection of the "great honor for her coming from this small town to win a prize so big."

"It's something that may never happen again," Favicchio said, noting Culpo "has represented Cranston well."
