Wednesday Storm should Bring Mostly Rain

But Thursday morning's commute could be treacherous.

In typical Rhode Island fashion, warm temperatures that broke 60 degrees in many parts of the state on Tuesday will gave way to another winter storm starting Wednesday afternoon.

Though early predictions had us thinking we could be looking at another major snowstorm, the current forecast predicts a mostly rainy event for Rhode Island with only a small amount of snow expected to fall on Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service is forecasting rain to start mainly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday with temperatures in the mid- to upper-40s. The rain will be heavy at times and temperatures will steadily drop. The precipitation should change over to snow by early Sunday morning and accumulation of about an inch is possible.

Thursday will be blustery and cold with a high near 26 and all that water from the day before will likely make for slippery conditions.

And brace yourself - Thursday night's low temperature will be just 13 degrees. We won't see warmer temperatures until Saturday, when the high is supposed to climb upwards of 50 degrees.

Although the winter has been rather enduring this year, Rhode Islanders can be thankful that they're not looking the snowfall totals being predicted higher north, which could see anywhere from 1- to 2-feet of fresh snow.
