With Limited Salt, Roads Slick Tonight, Tomorrow

Black ice likely after snow squalls.

The state Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to be careful on the roads tonight and tomorrow as snow squalls will continue into the evening and bitter cold sets in overnight.

Black ice is likely to develop overnight, the DOT said in a release, and roads will be monitored.

"Given the limited amount of salt available, however, motorists should drive with reduced speeds, especially on untreated surfaces, and allow extra time for travel," the release stated.

The State Police said there were more than a dozen accidents on Thursday between noon and 3:30 p.m. during a particularly snowy period.

The DOT recommends giving yourself an extra few minutes to get to your destination tonight and tomorrow morning.
