Afro-Peruvian Diva Eva Ayllón Coming to Park Theatre

For more than 40 years, Afro-Peruvian singer Eva Ayllón has filled theaters to full capacity not only in Peru—where she can fill a stadium of 30,000—but in venerable United States venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood where she’s performed to sold-out crowds. On Sunday, October 27, she will make a rare appearance in Rhode Island for an intimate concert event at the historic Park Theatre in Cranston.

Touted by the Los Angeles Times as, “The Tina Turner of Afro-Peruvian music; energetic and playful, sexy and fully charged,” and “An outrageously good singer,” by the New York Times, Ayllón emerged in the early 1970s and immediately established herself as the world’s leading proponent of Afro-Peruvian music. Her recording career spans 20 albums and six Latin Grammy nominations. She is one of the few living artists to have her image on a postal stamp, commissioned and issued by the Postal Service of Peru – demonstrating her stature as one of the country’s living legends.

Ayllón’s Rhode Island performance later this month is part of her current “Celebrating Life, Festejando la Vida” tour to spread the joy of Black Peruvian music to North American audiences. In concert, Ayllón focuses on the elegant and lively genres of the coastal plains of Peru. She is well-known for singing the Landó, Festejo and Vals; all mestizo blends of Peru’s indigenous African and Spanish musical heritage.
