Severe Thunderstorms Likely

There's a strong chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for most Providence County including Cranston.

The thunderstorms, which are forming just to the east of northern Rhode Island, could produce quarter-sized hail and damaging winds with gusts reaching 60 mph.

The National Weather Service advises people to inside and drivers should expect poor visibility and street flooding.

As of 3:45 p.m. in Cranston, distant rumblings and booms from the storms could be heard.
