Two Dead After Apparent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Two people were found dead inside the house at 1012 Pontiac Ave. this morning and Cranston Police are investigating.

Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan said police and firefighters responded to the scene around 8:30 a.m. after a report of two unresponsive adults inside the home.

Firefighters detected high levels of carbon monoxide in the home and found a 40-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, both dead.

The State Medical Examiners office will be conducting autopsies to determine the actual cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation, Ryan said.

Family members at the scene said they believe the couple died from carbon monoxide poisoning because they were using a generator in the basement.

There was a heavy police presence in the area for hours Wednesday morning.

More details will be posted when they become available.
