Contain Yourself! The Container Store's First RI Store Opens Soon

Company to hire 40, promises 50 to 100 percent better wages than industry average. Plans to donate 10 percent of opening day proceeds to Crossroad Rhode Island.

The Container Store has released new details about its first Rhode Island store, set to open May 17, including a promise that 10 percent of its sales during its grand opening weekend will be donated to Crossroads Rhode Island.

And now is the time to apply for a job as the company plans to hire about 40 people and claims to pay 50 to 100 percent higher than the national average for retail sales.

The new store, set to open in Cranston's Garden City Center, will be the company's 66th store in the country. Construction is currently underway on the 25,000 square foot store that will feature more than 10,000 products.

Along with an endless and dizzying array of products to help people organize themselves, the store offers personalized help with staffers on hand to guide customers towards specific solutions. Walk in with measurements for a closet or specific space and they'll help design a storage system that will fit snug as a bug and keep your stuff nice and tidy.

The company was born in a small strip mall in Dallas, Texas, in 1978 and claims to have created the storage and organization retail category.

And in that category, they've found ways to innovate and adapt everyday products. Did you know they sell 45 different types of laundry hampers? Or 170 types of hooks and 70 styles of hangers?

Interest for the new store is running high. A preview of the store opening we posted in November generated dozens of comments including one from a professional organizer who said "I am thrilled about this."

"So excited! This is one of my favorite stores!" said Carol Simpson.

"YES!!! I love this store. . .now I won't have to drive all the way to Natick, Mass.," said Lisa Defusco.

Along with its 10 percent donation on opening weekend, The Container Store is looking for "Super Fans" and is running a contest to find it's Rhode Island Super Fan. The winner will get special recognition — including a sash and crown — and a chance to get exclusive access to the store at the grand opening. The winner will also get a spot first in line on opening day along with a $250 store gift card.

If you're interested in becoming a Super Fan, check out their Facebook page and leave a comment about why you're worthy of Super Fan status.
