Wendy's Now Open on Reservoir Ave.

Getting a Frosty just got a whole lot easier in Cranston.

There's a ribbon cutting next week for the new Wendy's on Reservoir Avenue, but that doesn't mean it's too early to get a burger and a Frosty.

A Wendy mascot has been strolling up and down the sidewalk all day, waving at honking cars alongside a row of "Now Open" banners flapping in the wind.

The new Wendy's has been under construction for a few months after getting approval from the city.

This Wendy's comes to 691 Reservoir Ave. after a lengthy zoning battle over its prior choice spot — the former Bickford's down the road at 860 Reservoir Ave., which is now surrounded by a temporary fence and overgrown with weeds. Neighbors to that property didn't like the idea of drive-through service and after ending up in court, the future of the restaurant ended up where customers have been streaming through since the doors opened this week.

But that's all in the rear-view mirror and city officials plan to celebrate a ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m. on Friday the 13th of June.

The new Wendy's marks the second Wendy's to come to Cranston in recent months, with the new Garfield Avenue Wendy's opening in late winter across from Texas Roadhouse and next to the Cranston Parkade.
