Reading in the Hall: "Destiny of the Republic" by Candace Millard

American politics during the 1880s was just as messy and contentious as today and those who practiced medicine and science could be blind to change. These cultural and scientific issues are interwoven with the assassination of James Garfield, a war hero and scholar who reluctantly was nominated and elected President, in Candace Millard's "Destiny of the Republic".
