Pat Mastors Talk & Booksigning - DESIGN TO SURVIVE: 9 Ways an IKEA Approach Can Fix Health Care & Save Lives

Barnes & Noble Warwick is pleased to host Pat Mastors, former television news and medical reporter,  for a talk and Booksigning for her book DESIGN TO SURVIVE: 9 Ways an IKEA Approach Can Fix Health Care & Save Lives on Saturday, November 9th from 1pm-3pm at 1350 Bald Hill Road, Warwick. The U.S. spends the most in the world on health care and research, yet our outcomes are among the worst in industrialized nations. Hundreds of thousands die every year from medical harm. Imagine a world where health care took a page from the IKEA -where expenses were streamlined, quality was predictable, customers participated, & everyone shared in the cost savings. Through analogies, stories from families/doctors, & the author’s quest to find out what happened to her own father, Design to Survive serves up strategies for patients, families & providers, with the conviction that we can do better.  “Up to 440,000 people are killed every year by medical mistakes…the third leading cause of death in this country! When it happened to my father in 2006, I couldn’t get my head around the fact that the very place he went to to be healed (surgery on his neck) instead caused his death (complications of an infection). My quest to seek new patient safety laws quickly morphed into a mission: to help others become engaged patients who can absolutely improve the chances things will go well.  Your eyes and ears, knowing mind and advocacy can help your multitasking care team ensure things don’t fall through the cracks. But…where do you start? What should you bring with you to the hospital? What easy things can you do today?”  states Pat Mastors.Pat Mastors is the CEO of Pear Health LLC and is an advisor to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, advises private physician practices, and serves as consumer representative for her state’s health department. This talk and booksigning will be an informative event for patients, families and healthcare providers.  For additional information, please contact Katie Rendine, Community Relations Manager at crm2159@bn.com
