Cranston is Home to Most Philosophical Kindergartener in America

Scout Brocklehurst of Cranston has been named the Most Philosophical Kindergartener in America.

Scout Broklehurst is a thoughtful kindergartener at Carriage House Day Care in Cranston.

Very thoughtful, apparently, as she has just been named the Most Thoughtful Kindergartener in America by Kids Philosophy Slam — an annual contest that promotes deep thinking and philosophy as a fun exercise to children in all grade levels.

"I went to the website, it was 3 a.m. in the morning and I saw Scout's name as the most philosophical kindergartner in America," her teacher, Tammy Donohue, told NECN.

Donahue said she entered the youngsters in the class in an effort to highlight their critical thinking. They're all deep thinkers, she said, and her classroom has a philosophy itself — nobody wants to get into trouble.

Brocklehurst reflected on the concept of beauty and submitted a drawing of herself and her teacher.

She stands beneath a rainbow framed by a blue sky and underneath, she writes: "Beauty comes from your heart, and that makes you want to do the right thing."

Along with the recognition, Brocklehurst got a certificate and a $25 cash prize.
