Cranston Wife and Husband Simultaneously Surprise Each Other With New Car Purchase, Lottery Win

The owner of Cafe on Midway in Cranston won $20,000 by buying the last $2 scratch ticket in a dispenser while closing up. When she called her husband to surprise him, he had quite a surprise of his own to tell.

Cafe on Midway, still a well-kept secret haven of food in Garden City Center's Post Office Square, has a lot of fans, mainly for its knockout lunch offerings and good prices.

They also don't mind running into Colleen Gaulin, the owner. And does she have a story to tell now!

Recently, she was closing up for the day and noticed there was just one last $2 "40th Anniversary" Rhode Island Lottery Instant Ticket in the dispenser.

Maybe she was just in cleaning mode or something, but she bought the ticket herself so it could be refilled and ready for the next day.

She started scratching, and sure enough, she uncovered the "star" symbol to win all 10 prizes.

Each prize was $2,000 so in the end, she won $20,000.

Talk about a good end to the work day!

She called her husband to surprise him only to find out he had a surprise of his own — he just bought a new car.

Gaulin told the lottery commission that the money will go towards the new car.

So be sure to give Gaulin a big congrats the next time you stop in the Cafe, located at 400 Midway Road. And if her husband's there, maybe he'll show you his new car.
