It's Just Snow, People! 3 Things that are Helping me Survive the Winter

Everyone’s complaining about all the snow and cold weather and it doesn't bother me ONE BIT. This winter, three things came into my life that made the winter weather bearable. I can now survive all the snow days, the cold weather, and the general seasonal doldrums because I have the key to winter happiness. Dig, if you will:

1) Fleece lined leggings. I swear, I do not understand why this wasn't invented years ago. I love leggings.

Leggings + Boots + Butt-covering sweater=my daily uniform from October through March

It’s a standard winter outfit that I share with many youngish moms who still want to look good but don’t feel like squashing post-baby bodies into jeans, styles of which have become less and less forgiving over the years. I ordered mine online from www.nomorerack.com so I have a plethora of fleece lined leggings to choose from whenever I want them. But I am told that the Job Lot ones are just dandy, too. Yay!

2) My Kindle. Oh, my Kindle. I had an e-reader before, so I understand how cool an e-reader is. But I did not have a Kindle. I did not have Kindle Prime, which allows me to get a free book every month (meaning already-paid-for with my yearly membership fee but who cares, it still feels free). I did not have Whispersync so I don’t even need to get out of my warm bed and walk down the cold hall to my computer to have a new book in my hands when I finish the old one, let alone actually leave my house to go buy a book. (What? Who does that?) And it’s such a cool name. Kindle. Hats off to the marketing genius who came up with that one.  It’s going to be like Band-Aid or Kleenex or any of those brand names we have now applied to the thing it actually is. Amazon.com is taking over your life, if it hasn't already. Just deal with it.

3) My Honda Crosstour. I've always been a minivan mom, but this past year, I developed a wandering eye for other cars. I used to drive a VW Jetta and it was so cute and quick. My dream car was a Volvo station wagon (yes, I am that suburban) but it was too pricey. So I started looking around at Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk and found the Crosstour. It's fabulous. Its interior has that sleek German-engineering type feel to it, and the hatchback is big enough to fit my son’s hockey bag. And it’s 4WD. If ever there was a winter which absolutely necessitated 4WD, it’s this one. This car actually makes it fun to drive in winter.

So there you have it...how a local mom is surviving the winter. How are you surviving?
