Many years ago a mentor told me not to run from anything, but to run to it. My advice to you, you’ve got to find an exercise that you enjoy doing. For me it’s walking, for you it might be running, rowing, or a kick boxing class. The point is if you find something you enjoy doing, you’ll run to it, and the chances of sticking to your plan is 10 times better.
By now, I hope you know that I’m the guy who inspired by my son lost over a 130 pounds in under a year, and I’ve been sharing advice on how I did it for several weeks here on Cranston Patch. But this week, I thought I would share a little bit about the balancing of keeping it off, and the most important thing to me, just being Dad.
If you were surfing the channels in March you may have come across my Son and me on Capitol Television, we testified before the House Finance Committee in support of Land and Water Bonds. Together we urged the House Finance Committee to place this question on the ballot for you to decide in November, reminding our elected officials that a healthier community is an investment in it’s people. As medical bills skyrocket, and healthcare continues to be the topic of every campaign, we must invest in the natural resources that help our children to see the value of a Nature Generation, before they are card carrying members of the Nintendo Generation. My son talked about the great experiences he has had through the RI Great Outdoors Pursuit and how it’s gotten him outside, where he’s seen many more amazing things than he’s seen at home on television. You can also read about it in EcoRINews if you’re interested.
That brings me to balance, if you haven’t heard about the RI Great Outdoors Pursuit its one of the ways I’ll be spending active time with my Family this summer, you can check it out at http://www.riparks.com/RIOutdoorsPursuit/ registration is open and FREE. This is a great way to explore the parks and state resources we have here in our own back yard, not to mention win stuff that will likely encourage you to stay active, but also a great way to get out and get moving with our children this summer.
