67 Camaro Start to Finish in One Week

A local Cranston man thinks he can rebuild 67 Camaro to original condition in 1 week this summer.

This July 9th Richard Campopiano of Cranston co-owner of R&D Tool Engineering in Cranston will be undertaking a project he has been wanting to finish since 1995 – his original 1967 Camaro SS RS Convertible.

As an avid car collector he always enjoyed going to car shows with his wife Debbie and family. After going to so many shows he just knew the 67 Camaro SS RS Convertible was the car he just had to have.  The first problem was finding someone who wanted to sell one in original condition was impossible. Then one day Richard’s wife Debbie found one for sale in Old Car magazine. The second problem is that it needed a lot of work – but that was ok for a guy like Richard he has been rebuilding antique cars as a hobby since 1981.

After they bought the car from a man in Connecticut it sat outside their business in a container waiting to be finished. He took it all apart and had the engine rebuilt and frame powder coated, but that’s as far as he got. In the years to come he put his project aside and restored many cars for other people. Richard always put the Camaro on the backburner, “If I did the Camaro I wanted to make sure I did it right. I wanted to rebuild it to its original condition. I just didn’t have the time or all the parts to do it.”

As the years past Debbie would buy parts for the Camaro for Christmas, Birthday and Father’s day gifts. Now 16 years later it is time. Richard with the help of his friends is taking his July vacation to work all day and night to finally finish the car he loves.
