Obituary: Albert E. Suter, 82, Retired Cranston Firefighter

Albert E. Suter, 82, a retired Cranston Firefighter, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Jeanette J. (Miele) Suter.

Born in Providence, the son of the late Emil and Anna H. "Christine" (Aronson) Suter, he had been a lifelong resident of Cranston. He served his country during the Korean War as an aircraft jet engine mechanic in the United States Air Force. Serving on the Cranston Fire Department for over thirty years, Al attained the rank of Lieutenant and was stationed last at the Scituate Avenue Station before retiring.

He was one of the original members of the Cranston Volunteer Firefighting Museum where he also served on the Board of Directors. Al was an active volunteer with the Arthritis Foundation of Rhode Island; he loved spending time on his boat; was a very handy man and he enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

He is survived by his son Peter A. Suter and his wife Maggie (Gormley) of Coventry.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18 at 10:00 am at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
