Obituary: Alphonse Soscia, Jr., 80

Alphonse Socia, Jr., 80, of Cranston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at home.  He was the husband of Judith “Judy” (Bodreau) Soscia.  A lifelong resident of Cranston, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Beatrice (Cardillo) Soscia.  Al worked in mechanical maintenance at Ciba Geigy, Co. for 25 years and in the Union Industries for over 20 years, before his retirement.  Mr. Soscia was a US Air Force Veteran. An avid Landscaper, he also enjoyed his many daily walks with his dog Buddy.  He was a  Yankee and Giants fan.


Besides his wife, he is survived by his 4 children; Kevin Soscia of Cranston, Cheryl Pickering and her husband Michael of Scituate, Lorie Butler and her husband Kevin of Coventry and Michelle D’Ercole and her husband Brian  of Cranston.  Al was the beloved grandfather of Stephanie, Michael, Ashley, Ryan and Kyle.  He was the brother of Helen O’Desky of Cranston, Peter Soscia of North Providence, Mary Eannarino, Bertha DeAngelis, Elizabeth Holihen, Robert Soscia, Dolores DiBiase, all of Cranston, and the late Richard Soscia and Josephine Gesmondi and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.  Burial, with Military Honors, will take place at RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, immediately following.  VISITING HOURS are Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
