Obituary: Constantine W. "Charles" Pournaras

Constantine W. "Charles" Pournaras, 88, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Constantine W. "Charles" Pournaras, 88, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Hebert Nursing Home, Smithfield.

He was the beloved husband of the late Dora (Vican) Pournaras.  Born in Providence, he was a son of the late William and Helen (Anagnostopoulos) Pournaras.  Charles was a supervisor for Narragansett Electric Company for thirty years before his retirement. He was a US Army veteran serving during WW II. Charles was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where he served as a Board Member, and was Treasurer from 1954-1956. He served on the Church Council from 1973-1976, and President from 1977-1980. Charles was a member of the American Legion, Masons, and the Combat Infantryman’s Association. Charles was an avid tennis player.

He is survived by his loving children, Elaine Jaffe of Fort Lauderdale, FL and William Pournaras of Cranston. Charles was the cherished grandfather of Jacob and Rachael Jaffe, and Lauren Pournaras. He was the brother of Stephen Pournaras of  McLean, VA and the late Nicholas Pournaras and Eugenia Pascalides.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on  Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Interment with Military Honors will be in North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pournaras Athletic Fund at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920
