Obituary: John F. Lamont, 86, Longtime Optometrist

John Faith Lamont, Jr. 86, a former Hamilton, Mass., resident, died on Tuesday.

John Faith Lamont, Jr. 86, died on July 8, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor Louise (Garside) Lamont.

Born and raised in Cranston, R.I., he was the son of Mabel (Brownell) and John F. Lamont, Sr. In 1947, John graduated from Cambridge Junior College. He served in the U.S. Army 103d Field Artillery Battalion from 1949 to 1952 in Germany. On April 4, 1953, John and Eleanor were married in Lowell. In 1956, John earned a bachelor of science and a doctorate of optometry from New England College of Optometry.

The couple settled in Hamilton, where John was self-employed as an optometrist. The couple enjoyed sailing with their two sons and were members of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club in Rockport. In 1989, John joined the staff of Bass River Optometrics in Chatham and Orleans. He and Eleanor moved to Yarmouth Port in 1993 where they were members of the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth. John also enjoyed curling and travel.

John leaves two sons; Bruce Lamont of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Eric Bradford Lamont and daughter-in-law Pamela Taylor Lamont of Bolton. He is survived by four grandchildren, and is predeceased by his wife Eleanor who passed away January 26, 2013, and his brother Algernon Mitchell.

John will be interned at Cape Cod National Cemetery with Honors on Friday, July 11, 2014.
