Obituary: Sgt. William F. Loux, Sr., Former Cranston Police Officer

Sergeant William F. Loux Sr 78, of Cranston, died Sunday February 16, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Palmieri) Loux.

Born in Providence he was the son of the late George E. Sr. and Margaret H. (Pierce) Loux. He leaves two daughters Karen Casale and her husband Stephen of Cranston, Susan Criscione and her husband Michael of Cranston and a son William F. Loux Jr of Cranston. He was the grandfather of Tiffany Braga of East Providence, Stephanie Casale of Cranston and Michael Criscione Jr of Cranston. Mr. Loux is survived by his sisters Margaret R. Browning, Norma M. Loux and Patricia A. Pryor and by his brothers Donald F. Loux, Robert A. Loux, and Dennis James Loux. He was the brother of the late, George E. Loux Jr, Everett Loux, Dolores Simoneau and Mary Evelyn Sisker. He leaves three generations of nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Loux was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after achieving the rank of Sergeant. Prior to his USAF duty, he was a member of the RI Civil Air Patrol. He later enlisted in the Rhode Island Air National Guard then further served his country as a US Coast Guard recruiter. Mr. Loux studied at Salve Regina College graduating with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.

In 1958, Mr. Loux joined the Cranston Police Department retiring in 1978 with the rank of Sergeant. During his two decades with the Cranston Police Sgt. Loux was active in implementing many law enforcement programs and innovations including initiating the Department’s first K-9 division and at the Cranston Police Firing Range, which is dedicated in his name, he instructed fellow officers in advanced shooting and police combat techniques.

In 1978, he took a position as Master Electrician for Roger Williams Foods of Cumberland, RI until 1989 and later worked as a Master Electrician with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections for ten years. In 2006, he was the founder and president of Police Depot Firearms in Scituate, RI, a business he operated until his recent passing. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11 am in Holy Apostles Church, Pippin Orchard Rd., Cranston followed by burial with military honors in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
