Services for Brian Moretti, 26, on Wednesday

The 26-year-old Cranston native died unexpectedly in Richmond, Va., on March 5.

Cranston is in mourning as it prepares to lay to rest a 26-year-old graduate of Cranston High School West who died unexpectedly last week at the cusp of a burgeoning career chasing his dreams.

Brian E. Moretti, died March 5 in Richmond, Va, as he traveled to participate in the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament with the St. Bonaventure Women's basketball team in his role as the assistant sports information director at Saint Bonaventure University in Olean, New York.

He had just accepted a promotion to marketing director of athletics and was to start his new job in the coming weeks.

Friends and family will gather on Wednesday at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Mary's Church in Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.

Moretti is described as a tireless person who gave his life to the people and groups around him.

A lifelong athlete, Moretti focused on hockey and became the only junior picked to be captain of the Varsity team in Cranston High School West history.

He graduated West in 2005 and went to Johnson and Wales, where he got a bachelor's of science in sports entertainment and event management. He got his masters in sports administration at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., in 2013.
