3 Fires Strike Providence within 24 Hours

Providence, R.I. firefighters had their hands full on Sunday November 24, 2013, and Monday, November 25, 2013, as three residential fires ignited within the city in the span of approximately 12 hours. Sunday night’s fire, however, resulted in limited damage since the fire was contained to the room of origin by a residential fire sprinkler system which allowed firefighters to safely enter the structure and secure the scene. Residents of the apartment building on Hanover Street were able to return to their homes and no one was injured because the building was equipped with a properly installed and maintained fire sprinkler system.

The two fires that occurred hours later on Monday morning painted a much different picture. The fire that broke out just after midnight on Monday spread to two floors of the wood frame multi-unit residence at 51 Pleasant Street and displaced eight residents. Hours later at approximately 9a.m. fire engulfed the back of a two-story multi-unit wood-frame house at 685 Manton Avenue causing extensive fire and water damage and resulted in two firefighter injuries.
