A guard at the ACI in Cranston has been charged with assaulting a prisoner in the high security ward, the RI State Police announced Thursday afternoon.

Jonathan Addison, 44, of 365 Simmonsville Ave., Johnston, was arrested at his home Wednesday, charged with simple assault, Col. Stephen O'Donnell announced in a release Thursday.

Addison is accused of using excessive force on a prisoner who was being moved from the high security ward to segregation due to his "unruly behavior," State Police Captain Kevin M. O’Brien said. Surveillance video showed Addison "struck the inmate with his knee to the stomach," O'Brien said.

The State Police and the ACI Investigations Unit combined on the investigation of the incident, which occurred July 15.

Part of me does not feel bad for the inmate. Why do they deserve special treatment. They don't think of that when they are robbing, raping, murdering.

The only thing I see wrong here is you named the officer and not the low life scum bag loser inmate who most like is lucky all he got was knee......a crowbar or bat would have been much more effective....

Agreed Bob! I am so frustrated with Inmate Rights. Where are the rights of the people they violated! The victims and the people in charge of monitoring these losers have no rights! Only the inmates....boo hoo!

other than the comment by dave lee all i see is neanderthal comments by the general public

The guard should have dragged him to the new cell, when they go to jail they should lose all rights! Were they nice to the victim they robbed hurt etc? Unreal bring back the electric chair!

I agree with the general opinions here that inmates gave the victims no rights many times young children and I think that with what the correction officers probably see every day there is some anger and frustration. these inmates have more than the elderly in our country and there's something very wrong with that so whatever the officer did I'm sure the inmate provoked it . stopped giving the inmates rights
Anne December 13, 2013 at 07:33 AM
That is let's stop giving the inmates so many rights and treat them like the criminals that they are asking the elderly rights how about that and anyone was defending inmates on here I wonder why

OK Adam. What about their victims? All I am saying is that if they misbehave, considering why they are in prison, they should not receive preferential treatment. Too much emphasis on prisoners' rights rather than victims' rights. Yes they have been institutionalized for their wrongdoing, but in many cases, that is not enough. Call us neanderthal. However, what you are not seeing is that the prisoners are the neanderthals, perfectly displayed in their behaviors!

Yes Anne! I wonder why as well. There are those out there who think fighting for the rights of the underdog is commendable. However, they are looking through a very skewed window.

Don't worry folks, Adam is just another wet behind the ears fool, Hey Adam...Let's say whatever this loser did to get himself in jail was against you or one of your family members...still flying the inmates have rights flag now ?.....as I said in my previous post, The inmate is lucky all he got was a knee....Adam perhaps you should get down to the ACI to see if the inmate needs your help.....maybe you could spend the night in the cell with him seeing your so concerned...
