A 39-year-old Cranston man has been arrested by Warwick police after a domestic dispute at a Motel 6 in that city during which he allegedly fired shots in the parking lot and then barricaded himself in a room.
Robbie Zeigler, 39, reportedly got into an altercation with a woman outside the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard, fired the shots, and then locked himself in a room as a SWAT team and hostage negotiators descended upon the scene.
Eventually, Zeigler surrendered without incident after about an hour-and-a-half.
Police said Zeigler was carrying a loaded revolver at the time of his arrest.
Police were first called to the scene at about 2 p.m. after a front desk worker heard the gunshots.
Police negotiated Zeigler's surrender through a broken weapon.
Zeigler was transported to the hospital for minor injuries he sustained when he threw his gun out the window.
Zeigler was charged with domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, using a firearm while committing a crime of violence and carrying a weapon without a permit.
He is due to be arraigned later today.
