Forty-eight-year-old Joseph Aloisio of 3 Kiki Circle, Cranston, has been charged with driving under the influence and refusing a chemical test after a 21-year-old woman riding in his car jumped out on Route 95 and was killed.
The Rhode Island State Police said the accident occurred in the southbound lane near the Washington Street overpass. Highway lanes were shut down for about an hour-and-a-half during the police investigation.
The woman has been identified Erica Moul of Smithfield and police said it appears that she jumped out of the car. Her cause of death has not been determined, although she was not struck by any vehicles on the road.
Aloisio is free on $1,000 personal recognizance after being arraigned earlier today. He will return to court Feb. 10.
