Cranston Man Charged with Heroin Possession after Traffic Stop

Johnston Police charged two area men with narcotics possession after they were found to be in possession of prescription drugs and heroin after a traffic stop.

Police said Jeffrey Silva, 30, of 76 Crawford St., Cranston, was arrested June 29 around 11:30 a.m. after a traffic stop when he was found to have a warrant for failing to appear on a driving with a suspended license charge.

A subsequent search of his car led police to the discovery of 30 Diazapam, 8 Alprazolam pills and five small clear plastic baggies of heroin.

All the drugs were hidden in the sunroof area of the car, police said.

Silva was charged with three counts of narcotics possession and controlled substance conspiracy.

Also charged was Mark T. Young, 24, of 86 Grosvener Ave., East Providence., who was driving the car. He also was charged with the three narcotics charges and controlled substance conspiracy as well as driving while in possession of a controlled substance.
