Cranston Man Sentenced for Having Pills in W.Va Hotel

A Cranston man who pleaded guilty in September to possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute after he was caught with hundreds of pills and thousands of dollars in a West Virginia hotel room in 2012 has been sentenced.

Benjamin Steven Campopiano, 29, of Cranston, was sentenced to two years and eight months in federal prison, the Associated Press reported.

Police said they executed a search warrant in May of 2012 at an Embassy Suites hotel room that Campopiano was renting. In the room, investigators found nearly 300 pills and $7,820 in cash and marijuana.

Campopiano reportedly said he sold oxycodone to people in the Charleston area and they cash in his room was from dealing drugs.

Campopiano was sentenced by United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.
