Crash Sends Hummer Airborne, Lands on Hyundai Parked at Dunkin'

One woman was hospitalized for minor injuries after crash around 8:30 Thursday morning.

One woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital after a dramatic crash involving a Hummer and two Hyundais at the intersection of Oaklawn and Mayfield Avenues Thursday morning.

The Hummer, driven by a 57-year-old woman, reportedly jumped the curbing and abutting landscaping in front of a Dunkin Donuts and went airborne, landing on a red unattended Hyundai in the parking lot.

That was after the Hummer collided with a white Hyundai driven by a 40-year-old woman who was attempting to pull out of the Dunkin Donuts parking lot to turn left on Oaklawn Avenue.

According to Cranston Police Traffic Unit Investigator Peter Leclerc, the woman in the white Hyundai was trying to turn left to go southbound when a a car heading north in the right lane on Oaklawn Avenue stopped to let her go.

She pulled out and proceeded to cut across the left northbound lane when she came in contact with the Hummer, which was heading north on Oaklawn Avenue.

The woman driving the Hummer spun and lost control before veering right towards the Dunkin Donuts parking lot. That's when it hit the curb and vaulted onto the Hyundai.

All three cars were towed from the scene.

No charges have been filed against any of the operators, police said.

"From all accounts, we were fortunate because it could have been much worse," said Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan.
