Firefighters Battle Smith St. Fire

The Cranston Fire Department extinguished a fire at 198 Smith St. Thursday afternoon.

The call came in as a possible basement fire, according to reports, and firefighters arrived minutes later to find smoke showing from the one-and-a-half story house.

It wasn't long before flames were showing from the eaves of the house but firefighters were able to knock it down not long afterwards.

The 2,640 square foot single family house was built in 1920 and is owned by Paul Zarrella, according to city records.

More details will be posted when they become available.
