Grand Jury Indicts Man for Raping Child in Cranston

Steven Vigeant was indicted and charged with two counts of first-degree child molestation and five counts of third degree sexual assault.

A 23-year-old Providence man today was indicted on two counts of first-degree child molestation and five counts of third-degree rape for allegedly molesting and sexually assaulting a child under 14 repeatedly between 2010 and 2011.

The Providence County Grand Jury reported out the indictment today.

According to a release from the Rhode Island Attorney General's office, Steven Vigeant, of 34 Monticello Ave., Providence, allegedly committed the crimes in Cranston and they were initially investigated by Cranston Police.

The first degree child molestation incidents occurred between Sept. 1 of 2010 and March 6 of 2011. He committed rape on multiple occasions between March 7 and June 30 of 2011, the attorney general said.

Vigeant is being held without bail as a probation violator. He had previously been charged with marijuana possession.

On the new charges, bail was set at $50,000 with surety and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim. He will appear in Providence County Superior Counrt on Dec. 5.
