Man Accused in Fatal DUI Appears in Court

Brandon Borge is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase while drunk in 2012. It ended in a fiery crash that killed his 34-year-old female passenger, police said.

Brandon Borge, who is accused of leading police on a chase while drunk and crashing into a concrete wall in Cranston, killing his passenger, Barbara Ellis of Attleboro, was due to appear in court on Tuesday.

The hearing, though, was continued to May 6.

Borge reportedly drove upwards of 94 mph in April of 2012 before the crash as police tried to stop him after he was seen driving erratically. The chase ended when his SUV crashed into an abutment at the Routes 2 and 5 split and responding officers and rescue officials had to pull him and Ellis, 34, from the burning wreckage.

Despite trying to avoid police, Borge posted here on Cranston Patch and said he wishes he was the one who died in the crash and complained that police didn't just write down his plate number and follow him home.

"Why didn't they shadow the car and just meet at the house? Why did they chase us through back streets? I might have had alcahol in me but not enough to warrant a chase like that," he reasoned [sic].

Borge's comments came after Ellis' mother, Nancy Casey, asked why he hadn't been arrested yet.

Borge asked for forgiveness and said his arrest "would happen soon enough Nancy, but i will join Barbara before that ever happens."

Borge, who lost both legs in the crash, said "my life life is hard enough being burned and and a cripple. I wish she survived and I did not."

"I lost my best friend and the love of my life. Lost everything I ever owned and have to live with the fact that Barbara is gone every day and all you people want is my arrest," he said. "If you could see what I have to go through every day then maybe that would make you happy because I suffer. I hate myself for what happen. I miss my best friend so much. . I would do anything to have her back."

In a moment of clairvoyance in the Jan. 5 comment, Borge suggested he knew he would eventually be caught.

"To see a crippled man in jail, you will have your wish soon enough," he said.

Ellis worked for the Attleboro Area School-to-Career Partnership, reported The Sun Chronicle. She helped students find employment in after-school and summer jobs.
